How To: Decrease (dec)

In crochet, a decrease is combining two stitches together into one. There are two ways that I like to do it, a normal decrease (dec) and an invisible decrease (inv dec). In most patterns, it doesn’t matter which one is used and in all Lousy Llama Creation patterns, unless otherwise noted, either method can be used.

Decrease

  1. Insert hook into stitch
  2. Yarn over and pull through (2 loops)
  3. Insert hook into next stitch
  4. Yarn over and pull through (3 loops)
  5. Yarn over and pull through all three loops (1 loop)

Invisible Decrease

  1. Insert hook into front loop only
  2. Insert hook into next stitch front loop only (3 loops)
  3. Yarn over and pull through two loops (2 loops)
  4. Yarn over and pull through two loops (1 loop)
