While there are many ways to sew pieces together in crochet, the only thing that matters to me is making sure my pieces don’t fall apart. This is just one method to sew pieces together. Personally, I use this method for everything besides putting squares together (which you should check out the mattress stitch if you’re sewing squares together in a blanket or sweater).
Here’s an example with sewing smaller pieces on:
To start, take the longest tail and put it in your tapestry needle. Line up the two pieces you are sewing and place them exactly where you want them.
Specifically, for the whale, I am going in the back loop of the bottom piece and the front loop of the top piece. Through a few examples, I figured out that I like the way this looks best but it really doesn’t matter. You can go through the whole stitch if you would like.
Start by going up, through the bottom and the top. Pull all the way through. Go down into the same stitch in the bottom (do not go through the top part again. That would undo the piece). Move over the next two stitches and repeat. Go up through both and down through one.
