One of the first stitches most people learn when crocheting is single crochet. It’s a tight, small stitch, that’s usually used for stuffed animals, amigurumi, and anything where you don’t want gaps.
To start, we need to put our stitches into something. That’s why we start with our chains.
Check out the How To: Chain post on how to start that.
Let’s break down the single crochet (also abbreviated as sc).
- Insert hook
- Yarn over
- Pull through 1 loop (2 loops remain)
