When crocheting items like circles or spheres, there is a wrong side and a right side.
The right side is where you can easily count the stitches and it gives an overall cleaner look.

The wrong side looks like a bunch of diagonal lines and it’s a lot harder to count the individual stitches.

Since you’re putting so much work into your beautiful crocheted pieces, you want it to look as nice as possible! Making sure the right side is out is an easy way to make sure your piece looks as nice as possible.
What about squares or rectangles?
Unlike circles, for squares and rectangles and anything else worked in rows, at the end of each row, you chain and turn your piece. This means when you are looking at one side, one row is the front, one row is the back, one row is the front, etc. aka, you don’t have to worry about a front and back (for the most part. This really applies to using one type of stitch and in the picture, it is all single crochets. When the pieces have different types of stitches and textures, it does matter. For the basics, it does not.)
